Animals ≠ Food

For farm animals, the farm sanctuaries that rescue them are a little slice of heaven. Sanctuaries give peace to the animals who have never felt it before. They give freedom. They protect. They love and understand. They respect these living gifts like they so much deserve.

This series was born from the gratitude I felt for animal sanctuaries, and the people who make them happen. And it continues, partly to help animals share their voice, and partly to help others see that animals are in fact living, breathing, sentient beings, with bright, vibrant, varying, and hilarious personalities.

The animals included were all rescued from abuse, neglect, and early death. From factory farms, backyard breeders, cockfighting rings, product testing, butchers, and other life-threatening situations. They are now able to live the rest of their lives peacefully and freely. These are the few lucky ones; billions of others still live an awful life and die cruelly.

If you haven’t already, make a compassionate change in your life. Small changes make a difference. Start with leaving meat off of your plate and go from there. Do your research. Try to embrace a vegan lifestyle. Speak up. Stop buying products tested on animals and sourcing your food from factories. Your choices not only impact animals, but also your own health and the well-being of the rest of us.

And, visit a sanctuary and spend some time with the animals you eat and use. See them as a fellow person. Interact with them. Pay attention to them. They will tell you what you need to know.

Do you have or know of an animal sanctuary that should be photographed? I would love to hear about them! Please contact me here.
